Youth photojournalist Ahmad Al-Bazz has been covering the political situation in his country, Palestine, by capturing the daily life of children and the elderly under the extended occupation that has left many to live in oppressed and uncertain conditions.

In this photo series, Ahmad shows the struggles of his society and the resilience of his people, including a flash of hopes when projects of cooperation such as the Sumud Freedom Camp in a place called Sarura can bring people together regardless of race, color and religion to build a safe place where people can stay in peace.

This interview was inspired by a chat at a train in Germany and follows the journey of a photojournalist. The interview has been edited for length and clarity.
