by Anna Siitam

Jovana Bazerkovska is one of the organizers from the European Youth Forum. She tells Orange about the youthful campaign and her expectations of this meeting.

“The topic of young people with fewer opportunities has not been tackled before and it is crucial to come up with recommendations for what we as young people can do to change this” said Jovana Bazerkovska, bureau member of the European Youth Forum and one of the organizers of this event. She is responsible for Equality and Human Rights and global education.  She underlined the importance of the event since young people face disadvantages is many areas which limits their autonomy, education and fully participation in the society. There is a need to break social and structural barriers and change attitudes and norms to really make a difference.

” It is our role in the Youth Forum to scream and shout so that young people aren’t being limited”. The Youth Forum is now encouraging the EU to make EU policies more youthful with a youth proofing campaign. Their written declaration is calling the EU institutions to listen to young people and encourage dialogue especially in regards to education, youth autonomy, rights and non-discrimination. One part of the campaign is postcards that can be sent to Members of the European Parliament. Jovana hopes that this meeting and the campaign is increasing the awareness of the topic and that the participants realise that they should force their governments for actions.
